Matteo Ciotola is an Italian filmmaker, screenwriter and editor working at the intersection of cinema, narrative theory, and contemporary media practices.
He co-wrote the screenplay of Joseph Troia’s directorial debut, The Revolution, praised for its sharp dialogue and narrative tension. The film was showcased in the TVCO Lineup at the Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film and premiered at the Academy-Award Qualifying Galway Film Fleadh, where it received nominations for International Competition and Best Debut Feature.
His no-budget graduation horror short film That Lives Within, noted for its eerie imagery and striking visuals, was selected for the Hot Springs International Horror Film Festival and acquired by Cineverse.
Over the years, he undertook an extensive apprenticeship as an Assistant Director, collaborating with production companies such as Netflix, Rai Fiction, Fandango, and Minerva Pictures.
His practice extends beyond filmmaking into critical research and education. He develops video essays on storytelling as a cultural practice, examining how narrative forms shape meaning across cinema and media, and is active in professional training through Film Skills, a course for companies applying cinematic tools and narrative thinking to organizational contexts.
